Competition Final Round

  1.  A small number of Participants are selected to go through to the Final Round. The decision on which Participants are advanced through to the Final Round is made solely at the discretion of the Jury Panel. The decision of the Jury Panel is to be considered final and binding, and not subject to debate or discussion.
  1.  Performances for the Final Round of the Competition will take place on the afternoon of 14th July 2024 in the Duke’s Hall at the Royal Academy of Music.
  1.  Participants who have been advanced to the Final Round will be notified by the end of 13th July 2024. They will also be notified of their performances’ time slots.
  2. Participants who do not go through to the Final Round may still be awarded prizes.

Competition performance

  1.  This is a Competition at which candidates are judged within the context of live performances. Participants perform a selection of works according to their appropriate age group requirements within their Competition Category.
  2.  Participants may perform from memory or from sheet music. In the case of vocal candidates, it should be remembered that part of the assessment of the performance concerns communication with the audience and performing from a copy of music may prevent candidates from achieving this criterion to the fullest extent.
  1.  An electronic copy of the music will need to be submitted with Participants’ repertoire details through the Competition Entry Form. In keeping with copyright laws, these need to be original or scans/photos of the original.
  1.  Participants should be accompanied by a single instrument in sympathy with the performance; vocalists may accompany themselves. New Talent Festival will send out a list of piano accompanists to Competition participants in case they are not familiar with any piano accompanists in London.
  1.  There may be occasions when the context of a performance does not require an accompaniment e.g. in the context of traditional folksongs or music written expressly for solo instrumental performance such as J. S. Bach’s Cellos Suites or Debussy’s ‘Syrinx’ for solo flute. In such cases, Participants would not need to ‘manufacture’ an accompaniment never intended by the composer.
  1.  Participants offering solo piano should not be accompanied by any other instrument. This would make the performing ensemble a duo, trio, quartet etc. and would not satisfy the Competition criteria of ‘solo performance’.
  1.  Photographs must not be taken during New Talent Festival Competition, and audio and video recordings must not be made by anyone other than those nominated by AY Academy or New Talent Festival.
