Are all New Talent activities held in person in 2024?

After the successful experience of 2023, we are excited to announce that the New Talent Festival 2024 will keep being in residence at the Royal Academy of Music, London.

We have a parallel online version of the New Talent Festival with entry deadline in August 2024 as many participants can’t make it to London. The online version will be separate from the in-person competition to uphold New Talent Festival’s integrity and fairness. Details of the online version of the New Talent Festival 2024 can be found on this website too.

Wherever you finish in the competition, you’ll receive feedback from our jury panel and a certificate to show you were part of one of the world’s best youth music festivals.

Winner of the Royal Academy of Music Prize is invited to study at Junior Royal Academy of Music without having to go through the usual vigorous audition process. This does not waive the normal Junior Royal Academy of Music tuition fees.

Winner of the RNCM prize will be awarded a £10,000 entrance scholarship to the RNCM (subject to successful audition). The award winner must be a young musician who entered the New Talent Festival Competition with one of the following instruments – viola, double bass, oboe, bassoon, French horn, bass trombone or tuba. This can be for entry in the following, or a subsequent, academic year.

An audition will be arranged for the prize winner on an individual basis.

It’s up to you. You can choose to register for the Competition only, or the Workshops & Forum only or the Masterclass only, or pick and choose any combination.

The 1st Round performances will take place in the Angela Burgess Recital Hall, the David Josefowitz Recital Hall and the Forsyth Room, depending on the category.
The Final Round performances will take place in the Duke’s Hall.

The workshops will take place in the Duke’s Hall at the Royal Academy of Music.

You can have the 1-1 masterclass via Zoom.

They will take place at the Duke’s Hall at the Royal Academy of Music.

I will be coming outside of London/UK and I need an accompanist. How can I find an accompanist?

We can recommend some piano accompanists to Competition participants in case they are not familiar with any piano accompanists in London.

Due to limitation of space, there won’t be any practice room available at the Royal Academy of Music. There are many practice room rental facilities in central London.

The participant’s age is determined as of 11.59 pm BST, on 13th July 2024. AY Academy and New Talent reserve the right to verify the age of any participant.
